Quarter 3

“The evidence seems clear that those businesses which actively serve their many constituencies in creative, morally thoughtful ways also, over the long run, serve their shareholders best. Companies do, in fact, do well by doing good.” -Norman Lear

For the next fourteen weeks we will probe the pragmatic aspects of ethical shopping. We will alert the listener to many companies and products associated with daily living that are currently available to those who want to join this movement. In podcasts 27-30 we will discover in depth what the Fair Trade label means and highlight many of the companies in the food and drink industry that are worthy of your attention.

In podcasts 31-34 we will discover exactly what the organic label is all about and point out companies that are striving to care for the environment. In podcasts 35-38 much of the discussion will center around companies involved with household products or clothing, cosmetics and jewelry. By learning about these noteworthy businesses, those who desire to shop with their conscience in mind will have various examples of companies that provide an excellent product with high ethical standards attached to them.

In the final two podcasts of this quarter we will study various media product and services that adhere to these high standards and how the role of the media shapes this whole conversation.
